After the corona death of an Indian student in Dresden, seven other people from his dormitory tested positive for the virus.
The city announced.
The house is under quarantine, nobody is allowed to leave it.
A total of 170 residents were tested, it said.
The Indian returned from his homeland at the end of April and died a few days ago.
It is still unclear to what extent it is an infection with the so-called delta variant.
It was first discovered in India and is considered particularly contagious.
In three of the seven people who tested positive, there is a suspicion of this variant, it said.
The results would still have to be confirmed by what is known as sequencing.
Indian mutant: share of a good two percent
The health department had quarantined on Thursday afternoon.
The employees of the health department now determined whether the residents who tested negative actually had no contact with infected people.
Only then could the quarantine for individuals be gradually lifted, it said.
According to the latest figures from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the proportion of the Indian mutant in all corona cases in Germany is a good two percent.
According to "Bild am Sonntag" it is still unclear where the Indian student contracted the virus and whether he is the Indian mutant.
After returning home, he initially had no symptoms for several weeks.
