(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, JUN 07 - Farewell to the obligation to wear masks outdoors in the Brussels-Capital region, with the exception of the crowded shopping streets. The minister-president of the Region, Rudi Vervoort, announced the change, which will come into force on Wednesday 9 June, after a meeting with the mayors of the nineteen municipalities in the area who reached an unanimous agreement.
The mask will continue to be mandatory outdoors in all crowded areas, indicated by each mayor for the territory of competence, where it is not possible to maintain a safe distance. The ban on alcohol consumption in public spaces will also be lifted from 10pm to 5am.
"Vaccination is advancing and numbers are decreasing.
From 9 June it will therefore no longer be mandatory to wear the mask outdoors, with the exception of the busy shopping streets ", wrote on Twitter the mayor of the municipality of Brussels, Philippe Close, however inviting everyone to" remain responsive and responsible ".
According to the latest federal data , in Belgium over 5 million people have so far received at least one dose of anti-Covid vaccine, equal to 44.4% of the population. The vaccination cycle has instead been completed by 2.5 million people, equal to 22% of the population. . (ANSA).
