Guido Cantz: "Do you understand fun?" Will end at the end of the year.

After more than eleven years, Guido Cantz says goodbye to »Do you understand fun?«.
Shortly before Christmas, he will moderate the pranks with the hidden camera for the last time in the first.
"Do you understand fun?" Was a project close to his heart, Cantz assures the German Press Agency.
"But precisely because things are going well, I think now is the right time to quit."
In 2010 the entertainer took over the longest-running German Saturday evening show from Frank Elstner.
Originally, Kurt Felix had guided the show from 1980, which he had already established on Swiss television.
Then came a whole squad of successors: Harald Schmidt, Dieter Hallervorden, Cherno Jobatey.
"You have to do something else in your life"
Guido Cantz has moderated 56 shows so far, more than Felix, the program creator.
Now the line.
Two events have puzzled Cantz: On the one hand, he will be 50 years old on August 19th.
On the other hand, during the corona pandemic, for the first time in many years, he had time to relax - because his countless carnival appearances and his tour suddenly canceled.
"I thought to myself: You have to do something else in your life." He doesn't yet know what that will be: "First of all, I would like to finish 'Do you have fun?' With a lot of joy and say goodbye.
And then I'll think twice: where do I want to go? "
Südwestrundfunk (SWR) wants to continue the show in 2022 with a new presenter and develop the concept further.
Until then, Cantz will host four more times: on July 17th, August 21st, October 9th and December 18th.
Clemens Bratzler, the SWR program director responsible for the show, thanked Cantz "for his great commitment and his many ideas." That "Do you understand fun?" Is particularly popular with younger people and has more followers on YouTube than any other ARD -Format, is also his merit: »Especially as a decoy, Guido set standards.
