For many parents, feeding their own children is a big and often conflict-laden topic.
Actor Joaquin Phoenix has been vegan since childhood.
However, he would like to give his son free choice.
Joaquin Phoenix is known for his clear words about veganism.
The 46-year-old used his 2020 Oscar speech, among other things, to draw attention to the suffering of dairy cows and other farm animals.
Shortly thereafter, he rescued a calf and its mother from a slaughterhouse with media coverage.
His latest project is the documentary »Gunda«, which accompanies a sow and her piglets.
So you could think that there are no animal products at Phoenix.
But son River, who was born to Phoenix's fiancée Rooney Mara last year, should apparently be able to choose his own diet.
"I hope he goes vegan, of course, but I won't force my beliefs on him," said Phoenix in a rare interview he gave to the British Sunday Times.
"I just don't think that's right."
However, he will inform him about the origin of food.
“I'll explain the reality to him.
I'm definitely not going to indoctrinate him with the idea that McDonald's has a happy meal, because nothing about this food is 'happy', ”says Phoenix.
"I will support him"
He will also not hide the fact that the cute farm animals in his children's books will end up turning into hamburgers.
"I'm not going to uphold the lie, but I'm not going to force him to be vegan either," says Phoenix.
"I'll support him, that's my plan."
Joaquin Phoenix and actress Rooney Mara announced their relationship in 2017 and became parents to a son, whom they named after Phoenix's late brother River, in September 2020.
