Coronavirus: ten conclusions that leave the first 4 million cases in Argentina

2021-06-09T11:29:51.688Z

It is the country with the fewest inhabitants in the world with the most infections. And the second least populated that exceeded 80 thousand deaths. It is ranked 99th in tests per million inhabitants. And he's in dangerous second-dose debt.

15 months have

passed

since the beginning of the pandemic and Argentina surpassed

4 million

cases of

coronavirus on

Tuesday

, just four days after reaching 80 thousand deaths.

The balance leaves ten conclusions:

1-

Argentina is the

"smallest"

country

in

the world with so many cases of Covid. The eight countries that precede it in the ranking have more inhabitants. With 45 million citizens, having exceeded 4 million infected is a global record. In that "top ten" it is only surpassed by France in infections per million inhabitants. The United States, India, Brazil, Turkey, Russia, the United Kingdom, and Italy have fewer. In deaths per million it is surpassed by the United Kingdom, Italy, Brazil and the United States.

2-

 Argentina is

ranked 12th on

the planet in the highest number of deaths, with the particularity that, except for Peru, it is the "smallest" country to have exceeded 80 thousand deaths.

All the rest of the countries that precede it in the ranking are more populous: the United States, Brazil, India, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Italy, Russia, France, Colombia and Germany.

3-

 Argentina fell to

99th place

in tests per million inhabitants.

In the region, Colombia, Peru, Uruguay and Chile have done more diagnostic tests.

Brazil, Paraguay, Venezuela and Ecuador have done less.

In the second wave, the Government decided to decentralize access to this tool, which gives it less control.

For most experts, it is a key weapon to keep contagions at bay.

4-

 Argentna has vaccinated

25 percent

of its population with one dose and 6.7 percent with two. In other words, one in four inhabitants of the country has received the first injection. And one in four vaccinated, the complete scheme. The model in which Argentina was inspired to choose this strategy was the United Kingdom, which to date has already overcome that initial path and managed to vaccinate 41 percent of its population with two doses.

5-

 Argentina suffers the death of

0.04 percent

of those who were vaccinated with a single dose. That is, 4 out of every 10,000. The lethality is markedly reduced with both doses, to 3 out of every 100,000. The chances of death with one dose are 1,333 percent higher than with two. The Government has not reported on how the new variants of Covid are acting on the vaccines available in the country: AstraZeneca and Sputnik.

6-

Argentina suffers from the deficit of the

second dose

. The possibility of vaccinating the entire population with both no longer depends on the Government, but on Russia. Those vaccinated with AstraZeneca will be able to complete their schedule 84 days after receiving the first dose, if batches begin to arrive on a regular basis. Instead, those who received Sputnik V depend on the availability of the meager second component. Or that the active principle arrives so that it can be packaged and formulated here by the Richmond laboratory. For every 8 doses of the first component, only one of the second has arrived so far.

7-

Argentina is the country with the fewest inhabitants that has the

largest number of critically ill patients

, that is, admitted to intensive care. There are 7,794, according to the last official part of this Tuesday. In this area, only India and Brazil precede it in the ranking. The overload of intensive therapies determined that the Government had to have a new confinement, with the aim of relieving the health system.

8-

 Argentina registers the

second highest mark in the world

of Covid cases per inhabitants every 24 hours, behind Uruguay. Part of the wave has moved to the Interior, with 5,528 cases this Monday in Córdoba and also high figures in Santa Fe, Tucumán and Entre Ríos. The second wave of Covid is being overcome very slowly (for some the third). In recent days, a decrease in the number of infections has been observed. This has been marked by both the Minister of Health of the City, Fernán Quirós, and by the Buenos Aires, Daniel Gollán.

9-

 Argentina is

eighth

in the world ranking in the number of recovered from Covid.

According to the number of registered cases, there is no other country in the world with a population as small as ours that has such a large number of people who have already experienced the disease.

10-

 Argentina depends on the

number of doses

that arrive in the coming weeks and on how much the vaccination campaign can be accelerated, to determine if some relief will be achieved in the medium term.

The danger of the variants is still latent: the Covid could become more aggressive if there are more people without their complete vaccination scheme.

The great gap between the first and second doses applied is an "experiment" almost unparalleled on the planet.
