(ANSA) - ROME, JUN 09 - "Hamas launched 4,000 rockets against our citizens, our civilians. Each rocket had the purpose of killing Jews and Israeli citizens in general. The fact that, thanks to our technology, we were able to intercept some of those rockets does not change things ".
This was underlined by the Israeli ambassador to Rome, Dror Eydar, during a hearing today in the Senate in which - as he himself remarked - he wanted to explain the reasons for the recent campaign in Gaza.
"Hamas intended to kill Jews wherever they were, indiscriminately, and it must be judged for this intention - continued the Israeli diplomat -. For us, every rocket is one too many. Israel, like any state that seeks life, has the" obligation to protect its citizens, just as every parent has the supreme obligation to protect their children from danger to their lives ".
"The war crime of Hamas - said Eydar - is twofold: first, indiscriminately shooting the Israeli civilian population. Secondly, it does so by acting in the midst of its civilian population, and using the people of Gaza as a human shield.
The stocks of the rockets are hidden under kindergartens and hospitals. Hamas headquarters were located inside normal residential buildings, including a building that contained the media from all over the world ". (ANSA).
