(ANSA) - ISTANBUL, 10 JUN - Iran has today exceeded the threshold of three million confirmed cases of Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic (3.003.112).
According to the Ministry of Health of Tehran, the cases recorded in the last 24 hours were 12,398, while the victims amounted to 153, becoming 81,672 in all.
The spread of the coronavirus in the Islamic Republic is however decreasing compared to the peaks recorded in Brazil, after the Persian New Year holidays, according to official data, which according to many experts remain underestimated.
Tehran's vaccination campaign, which officially began in February with the Russian Sputnik V serum, continues in the meantime, also due to the scarcity of doses available. According to the authorities, the doses administered are 4.5 million, of which a little more than 600 thousand reminders. Iran has long denounced difficulties in purchasing vaccines and medicines due to US sanctions.
Meanwhile, in a country in full campaign for the presidential elections on June 18, some electoral demonstrations have come under criticism for the gatherings recorded. According to Irna, over 50,000 people flocked to Ahvaz stadium in the southwest yesterday for a rally by conservative candidate Ebrahim Raisi, a clear favorite in the polls. (HANDLE).
