After a four-year-old was caught stealing in the Brandenburg town of Wittenberge, the police are investigating the boy's day-care center and his parents.
The child was seen stealing in a supermarket on Tuesday, the police said on Thursday.
The child had taken three ice creams, chewing gum and one FFP2 and one surgical mask.
Alarmed officials secured the stolen property - worth seven euros.
The police took the four-year-old home.
There it turned out that he had run away from his daycare center that morning.
Now one investigates for shoplifting against the legal guardians and for violation of the duty of supervision against the day care center.
It should also be clarified how the child could run away and get to the supermarket about a kilometer away.
