The cinema exploitation of the fantasy classic "The Lord of the Rings" is being extended once again: In the animated film "Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim" planned by Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema, the saga is about Helm Hammerhand and his fortress Helms Klamm are told.
In the second part of the film trilogy "The Two Towers", this fortress is the venue for the final battle for Rohan.
According to the industry magazines "Variety" and "Collider", the animated film is set to take place at a point in time 260 years before the plot of the "Lord of the Rings" films by Peter Jackson.
Anime specialist Kenji Kamiyama ("Ultraman") will direct the film.
According to media reports, the film is said to be linked to a total of six "Lord of the Rings" and "Hobbit" movies, with which Warner Bros. had sales of around six billion dollars between 2001 and 2014.
Oscar winner Philippa Boyens, co-screenwriter of Jackson's Tolkien films, will also be there to advise the animation film team.
Amazon's planned series, which is also based on the "Lord of the Rings" films, is not related to the project, it said.
