An Indian student returned to Dresden from his homeland, fell ill with Covid-19 shortly afterwards and died.
According to the investigations, the student was infected with the delta variant of the corona virus, which first appeared in India, the city of Dresden now announced.
"With a very high probability" the man contracted the virus in Dresden and not in India, it said.
There is a connection to the infection of another person who tested positive, the city said.
There was relevant contact between the person who is referred to as the "source case" in the communication and the deceased, so that it can be assumed that the virus was transmitted in this way.
After the student's corona death, seven other people from his dormitory tested positive for the virus.
The house was under quarantine.
The investigations into the outbreak are now largely complete, according to the city.
According to PCR tests, the delta variant is likely in three of the seven cases.
The exact sequencing results are still pending.
In addition to the people who tested positive, 13 other contact persons are in quarantine.
