The Dutch Crown Princess Amalia wants to forego the annual government allowance of 1.6 million euros during her studies.
Prime Minister Mark Rutte announced this on Friday in The Hague.
"I find it uncomfortable as long as I can bring little in return and other students have it so much more difficult, especially in this uncertain Corona time," the 17-year-old wrote to the prime minister.
In December, Amalia will be 18 years old and will then have the right to a good 300,000 annual income and an expense allowance of around 1.3 million euros - tax-free.
Many Dutch people were outraged by this high income for a student paid with taxpayers' money.
And MPs also considered the amount of the allowance to be inadequate.
Amalia had graduated from high school on Thursday.
What she wants to study is not yet known.
First, the eldest daughter of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima wants to travel and do internships at “very cool companies”, as she recently said herself.
