(ANSA) - LONDON, 11 JUN - The G7 2021 British presidency officially began in Cornwall, in the extreme south-west of England: the first summit in attendance since the outbreak of the Covid pandemic. Prime Minister Boris Johnson kicked off three days of work by welcoming guest leaders to the exclusive (armored) resort of Carbis Bay: Joe Biden for the USA, Mario Draghi for Italy, Angela Merkel for Germany, Emmanuel Macron for France, Yoshihide Suga for Japan, Justin Trudeau for Canada, as well as Charles Michel and Ursula vonder Leyen for the EU. The first session - on post-Covid reconstruction - is introduced by Draghi.
The walkway of the formal reception of the different leaders took place on the beach in front of the resort, with the sea in the background, under a gray sky crossed by gusts of wind.
The guests all exchanged a few words with Johnson, flanked by the young new bride Carrie Symonds, between smiles and beaten ones, before posing for the photographers. The first was Ursula von der Leyen, the last Emmanuel Macron. All were accompanied by wives or husbands, save for Draghi and the Canadian premier Justin Trudeau. (HANDLE).
