The Regional Health Agency (ARS) of the Grand Est on Saturday announced an “immediate action plan” after the detection of a “Delta variant cluster (known as Indian)” within the Haute Ecole des Arts du Rhin in Strasbourg.
Four positive cases are "already identified" and 43 contact cases are "under investigation," said the ARS in a press release.
Targeted vaccination operations are planned over the weekend, as well as a "strong mobilization of anti-covid mediators".
The prefecture has declared the school closed.
For two weeks, a cluster of this same variant has also been monitored in the Landes department.
The Delta variant of the coronavirus, now dominant in the UK, is 60% more contagious than its predecessor in the country, according to a study published on Friday.
But "the data indicate that the vaccination program continues to mitigate the impact of this variant" in populations where the number of people having received two doses of the vaccine is high, underline the British health authorities.
