(ANSA) - CARBIS BAY, 12 JUN - Work began this morning in Carbis Bay, Cornwall, on the second day of the summit of the G7 leaders under the British presidency with the presence for Italy of Prime Minister Mario Draghi. Today there are 3 dedicated sessions - against the backdrop of the post Covid "Building Back" goal - to flexibility, foreign policy, health policy and vaccines. For the latter purpose, the announcement tonight of a coordinated global plan to combat the next pandemics was anticipated, which includes, among other things, the reduction from 300 to 100 days of times for research and development of a vaccine.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson introduced the day with a message also relaunched via Twitter in which he hailed the announced declaration on cooperation against the pandemic at the G7 in Carbis Bay as "a historic moment". "With this agreement, the world's major democracies intend to commit themselves to preventing a global pandemic from happening again and that the devastation caused by Covid-19 will never be repeated," he reiterated. The intervention of American President Joe Biden, in the session dedicated to foreign policy, was also highly anticipated during the day, with Washington's attention focused on relaunching the challenge of a "front of democracy" to Russia and above all to China.
The final session on the anti-pandemic plan will be extended in the afternoon by the format of only the 7 big ones and the EU leaders, hosted by Australia, South Korea and South Africa, as well as that of India on video link. Also present were the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, and the number one of the World Health Organization (WHO), TedrosGhebreyesus. (HANDLE).
