Almost a year ago, Lidl took the confectionery products out of the range - the reason was a price dispute.
Now there seems to be an agreement.
Neckarsulm - In summer 2020 there was price trouble between the discounter Lidl and the confectionery manufacturer Haribo.
Haribo wanted to increase prices, Lidl was not ready - and promptly banned the products of the fruit gum giant from the shelves.
Lidl took Haribo out of its range - price disputes are not uncommon
According to the
food
newspaper, the reason for the price increase for Haribo was
the African swine fever: Haribo fruit gums are made with gelatine obtained from pork rind. The plague made animals and products made from them more expensive. According to the food newspaper, the dispute with Lidl was not an isolated case at the time, and Haribo is also said to have opened the relevant price discussion with other supermarket chains. But in the end only Lidl was rigorously delisted. Anyone who has since wanted to buy fruit gums from the discounter found mostly the own brand "Sugarland" and products from the Katjes brand on the shelves.
In fact, such “ban” actions are not uncommon in the grocery store.
For example, Rewe removed the goods of the pasta producer Barilla from the range for a while, while Kaufland and the Krombacher brewery even fought for several years, during which the supermarket was filling its shelves with other items.
Frozen goods, chocolate bars, gummy bears - time and again, customers have to forego products because retailers and manufacturers do not find a green branch.
As in the case of Lidl, the markets are usually bridging the gap with own brands and competing products until agreement is reached.
Lidl and Haribo: gold bear giant after agreement "back on all German supermarket shelves"
The dispute between Lidl and Haribo should now be settled: As the
Wirtschaftswoche
reports, gold bears, juice bears and Co. should soon be available again for Lidl customers.
The medium quotes a Haribo spokesman: “We are confident that Lidl customers will soon find the usual selection of Haribo products again.” This means that the gummy bear manufacturer is “back on all German supermarket shelves”.
