Serious accident on an alpine pasture in the Allgäu: A farmer got his head in the tail rotor of a helicopter and was critically injured in the process.

The 44-year-old had requested a cargo helicopter near the Bolgenalpe alpine hut in the Oberallgäu district last Friday to transport material, as the police announced on Monday.

On landing he got into the tail rotor for an unexplained cause and suffered severe head injuries.

He was flown to the Kempten Clinic in a rescue helicopter.

After an emergency operation, the man is now in a stable condition.
