Corona vaccinations from Astrazeneca are only recommended in Germany for people over 60 years of age.
A representative of the EMA now advises caution.
Kassel / Brussels - In the past, there have been numerous headlines around the Astrazeneca corona vaccine.
After individual cases of very rare cerebral vein thrombosis, the vaccine was only recommended in Germany for people over 60 years of age.
Now a representative of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) is urging caution when awarding vaccines - also for older people.
"In the context of the pandemic, it was and is our position that the benefits of an Astrazeneca vaccination outweigh the risks in all age groups," said vaccination expert Marco Cavaleri of the Italian newspaper La Stampa.
However, this is not always the case, according to EMA representatives: Therefore, mRNA vaccines such as those from Biontech and Moderna are also recommended for older people.
"Many countries such as France and Germany are considering this in view of the greater availability of mRNA vaccines," added Cavaleri in the interview.
Astrazeneca: Corona vaccine fully recommended by EMA
Nevertheless, the corona vaccination with Astrazeneca is unreservedly recommended - despite rare thrombosis cases.
But the availability of the vaccine also provokes criticism of the British-Swedish manufacturer.
Of the more than 2.4 million vaccine doses promised in the past week, only a quarter actually arrived.
This is reported by the news magazine Spiegel.

In the period from December 27, 2020 to May 31, 2021, the Paul Ehrlich Institute reported 860 thrombosis cases in different temporal contexts with the vaccination of Astrazeneca.
In 106 cases the thrombosis was actually identified as a side effect of the preparation.

"This affected 70 women between the ages of 22 and 79 and 35 men between the ages of 20 and 81," said a report by the institute dated June 11, 2021.
According to the PEI, 13 women (including 11 cerebral vein thromboses) and 8 men (including 6 cerebral vein thromboses) have died of thrombosis in connection with the vaccination.
