Without the required driver's license and under the influence of drugs: A man convicted of theft and wanted on an arrest warrant stole a bus in southern Germany.

He had stolen the vehicle in the night from Wednesday to Thursday from a parking lot of a leisure pool in Neu-Ulm, Bavaria.

In Pfullingen in Baden-Württemberg, about 80 kilometers away, the police finally discovered the bus, as the officials said.

Inside, they came across the 29-year-old thief and his 20-year-old girlfriend.

The couple slept.

Taken to a Bavarian prison

According to the police, the investigation revealed that the 29-year-old had been convicted of theft and embezzlement, among other things.

On Tuesday he would have had to serve a prison sentence for this, instead he took off with the stolen bus.

The police assume that the man wanted to evade a prison sentence ordered in another matter.

Since a drug test showed that the man had consumed marijuana and amphetamines, he now has to answer again for theft and for driving under the influence of drugs and without a license.

He was taken to a Bavarian prison.

The bus was damaged by around a thousand euros.
