Google today announced a series of updates that bring the Google Workspace experience to everyone, a single, integrated solution for communication and collaboration.
Workspace was originally designed for the digitization of work but given the growing trend to use remote solutions also for training and hobbies, the American giant has decided to open the opportunities offered by the platform to anyone with a Google account.
In addition to the new Workspace, the company has unveiled the evolution of Google Chat Rooms in Spaces; a new individual subscription mode, with extra features, for Google Workspace Individual; security and privacy updates in various apps. In particular, client-side encryption will help users increase the confidentiality of their data while addressing a variety of data sovereignty and compliance needs. This fall, security options will be rolled out on Google Meet within meetings.
Trust rules for Drive will make it easier to control how files can be shared inside and outside of an organization while labels for Drive will serve to classify files and apply controls based on sensitivity level. Even more protection against phishing and malware is on the way to safeguard against user threats and errors. "Collaboration doesn't stop at the workplace. From the start, our products have been optimized to enable greater participation and sharing," said Javier Soltero, Vice President and General Manager of Google Workspace. "Our focus is on providing end users, workers, teachers and students with a fair approach to digital tools."
