(ANSAMed) - BEIRUT, JUN 14 - The remains of the bodies of more than 120 victims of one of the most heinous massacres committed by the 'Islamic state' in Iraq have been exhumed from a common grave near the northern city of Mosul, for three years since 2014 capital of Isis.

These are 123 victims, mostly Shia Muslims, of the massacre of 600 inmates of the Badush prison committed in 2014 by ISIS.

The approximately 3,000 prisoners of the Badush prison, attacked by the Militians of the 'Islamic State', were separated on the basis of religious affiliation and the majority of the Shiites were taken to the desert and shot on the edge of a crevasse, then their bodies were thrown into the ravine.

Some of the survivors, who were miraculously saved because they jumped into the crevasse a few moments before the shooting, said they heard from the count of prisoners that the people who were about to be shot were just over 600.

According to reports from Iraqi and international media, the DNA samples of the bodies of the 123 bodies so far brought to the light will now have to be identified by comparison with the data that the families of the victims will make available to the authorities.

The UN says that so far more than 200 mass graves have been discovered in Iraq containing the remains of about 12,000 people.

ISIS, which controlled large swaths of western Iraq and eastern Syria between 2014 and 2019, is accused of committing crimes comparable to war crimes, against humanity and genocide. (ANSAMed).
