(ANSA) - ISTANBUL, 14 JUN - Turkey received the first batch of the anti Covid Sputnik V vaccine from Russia this morning. The special flight carrying the vaccines, reports the Turkish CNN, landed at the Esenboga airport of the capital Ankara.
In recent weeks, the Minister of Health, FahrettinKoca, had announced an agreement to purchase 50 million doses of the Moscow serum within the year. Sputnik joins the other vaccines already used in the country, the Chinese Sinovac - largely prevalent - and Pfizer-BioNTech.
With these new supplies, Turkey aims to further accelerate the immunization campaign, after several weeks at a slow pace due to the scarcity of vials. The doses administered so far are 34 million, of which over 13.7 million are boosters, with almost 17% of the population vaccinated with two doses. (HANDLE).
