Bank of Italy: new debt record, 2,680 billion in April

The increase reported by the Bank of Italy is 29.3 billion compared to March, so as to bring the total debt of public administrations to 2,680.5 billion.

The increase reflects the increase in cash and cash equivalents (17.1 billion, to 101.8) and the need for the month (11.9 billion).

The spreads and premiums on issue and redemption, the revaluation of inflation-linked securities and the change in exchange rates increased debt by a further 0.4 billion. 

At the end of April the share of the debt held by the Bank of Italy was 22.4 per cent (0.2 percentage points more than the previous month); the average residual life of the debt increased slightly to 7.5 years. With reference to the breakdown by subsectors, the debt of the central government increased by 25.9 billion while that of the local government by 3.5 billion; the debt of the social security institutions remained unchanged. specifies a note from the Bank of Italy.
