A majority of the population wants to end the mask requirement in school lessons.

In a survey by the opinion research institute YouGov, 59 percent of the participants said they were "more" or "completely" in favor of teaching again without mouth and nose protection.

31 percent reject this, ten percent did not provide any information.

With 62 percent, women are somewhat more in favor of repeal than men with 56 percent.

Individual federal states have already decided to lift the mask requirement in class.

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania no longer requires children and adolescents to wear mouth and nose protection in the classroom.

The masks are still compulsory in hallways and in the staff room.

In Saxony, schoolchildren and teachers do not have to wear mouth and nose protection in the school building if the seven-day incidence is stable below 35.

In view of the easing debates, the Education and Science Union (GEW) warned against abolishing the mask requirement in schools too early.
