He was apparently no longer at peace with "his life situation": In Tyrol, a 29-year-old claimed to have killed a man purposefully in order to end up in prison.
That is what the police said.
The previously unidentified victim was found on Monday evening on the banks of the Inn in Kufstein near the Bavarian border.
The body of the 70-year-old man had stab wounds on the upper body and in the neck area.
The suspect presented himself to the local police station as the perpetrator and confirmed his information in an interrogation.
"He didn't make a confused impression," said Katja Tersch from the Tyrol Regional Criminal Police Office to the dpa news agency.
It is not yet clear why the unemployed suspect wanted to go to prison.
The young man said he planned to kill someone weeks ago.
According to police, he ambushed his victim and killed her there.
According to the current state of the investigation, the man and the alleged perpetrator were not related or friends.
