The adventurer Rémi Camus and two friends descend the Loire by raft from Nevers to Orléans, where they will arrive on Saturday. Their goal: to collect d

"For the moment, we are rather surprised at the good state of cleanliness of the river", notes Rémi Camus, who descends the Loire by raft between Nevers (Nièvre) and Orléans (Loiret), in the company of two friends, Adrien Cavagna and Valentin Lam, picking up trash, and at the speed of the current.

"In any case for what is visible", indicates the adventurer, who has mainly crossed Natura 2000 zones between the Cher and the Nièvre, "very wild and very beautiful", he says.

The trio collected between one and two sachets per day: some packaging, bottles, sometimes tires.

“We found a scrap frame, an old gantry, all rusty,” adds Rémi Camus.

The stormy rains at the end of May also lifted and carried a few manhole covers onto the banks.

“We report them on a new application, Trash Spotter, which geolocates the waste that cannot be transported on our raft.

And wild deposits.

Then the app warns the associations, and soon the partner municipalities, ”explains Rémi Camus, who expects to find more rubbish as he gets closer to the cities.

This thirty-something had made himself known by going down the Mekong in hydrospeed in 2013, from Tibet to Vietnam, and in the program “Wild”, the survival race on M 6 in 2018. “During confinement, I had want to rediscover the wild corners of France: it's the descent of the Loire this year.

Next year, it will be a Monaco-Calvi swim in autonomy, ”announces this native of Bourges, who lives in Villefranche-sur-Saône (Saône-et-Loire), where he works as a sports coach and where he trains.

Leaving the Nièvre on June 8, the trio will end their journey in Orléans next weekend.

On Sunday, they will be joined by environmental protection associations for a major cleanup of the Loire.

And by all those who want a clean Loire.
