The Indian Court closes the Marò case

The Indian Supreme Court has ordered the closure of all legal proceedings in the country against Salvatore Girone and Massimiliano Latorre, the two Maròs involved in the death of two Indian fishermen in 2012. (ANSA)


(ANSA) - ROME, JUN 15 - The Indian Supreme Court has ordered the closure of all legal proceedings in the country accused of Salvatore Girone and Massimiliano Latorre, the two Marò involved in the death of two Indian fishermen in 2012. The Indian High Court had postponed the the case was closed last April 19 because the compensation of one hundred million rupees (about 1.1 million euros) that Italy had to pay to the families of the victims had not yet been deposited. During the hearing of April 19, which was chaired by the President of the Court himself - Sharad Arvind Bobde - the Attorney General of the State, Tushar Mehta, had declared that "Italy has started the transfer of money", adding however that the sum had not yet available.On April 9, Cortea had decided that the case would be closed only after the payment of the agreed compensation.
