Masks down, graduation hats on: a year and a half after the outbreak of the corona pandemic in the Chinese city of Wuhan, more than 11,000 students took part in a huge graduation ceremony. At the event on Sunday, the graduates sat tightly packed together in navy blue robes without wearing mouth and nose covers. Above them was a sign that read, "We wish you all a great future."
Last year, there were only a few graduation ceremonies in Wuhan, where the coronavirus was first detected at the end of 2019.
The University of Wuhan held a largely digital graduation ceremony last June, with on-site students and teachers wearing masks.
Around 2200 students who had already completed their studies in 2020 were honored at this year's ceremony.
China has largely contained the corona infections in the country, but numerous security measures still apply, including strict border controls and regulations for domestic travel.
On Tuesday, the health authorities registered 20 new corona cases in the country.
