(ANSA-AFP) - BUDAPEST, June 15 - Hungary has approved a law that prohibits the 'promotion' of homosexuality to minors. Lamisura was criticized by Amnesty International and other organizations as a severe blow against LGBTQ rights. The law, promoted by the party of Prime Minister Viktor Orban, passed with 157 votes in favor and only one against. Over 5,000 people gathered last night in front of the Hungarian parliament to protest against the law which, they argue, "severely limits" freedom of expression and children's rights. For LGBTQ groups it is a measure comparable to those in force in Russia.
"In order to ensure the protection of children's rights, pornography and content depicting sexuality as such or promoting deviation from gender identity, gender change and homosexuality should not be made available to people aged less than eighteen years ", reads the legislative text.
Sex education classes "should not be aimed at promoting gender segregation, gender change or homosexuality," he adds. Under the new law, an advertisement like the one launched by Coca Colan in 2019 promoting the acceptance of gays in Hungary would be banned, as well as films and books that put homosexuality on the scene.
