(ANSA) - MADRID, JUN 15 - "The next week" could be the decisive one to decide on the possible granting of the pardon to the independence leaders of Catalonia condemned after the 2017 secession attempt: the spokeswoman of the Spanish government, María said today at a press conference Jesús Montero.
For weeks the Spanish government has been showing a willingness to grant the pardon, a possibility that has sparked opposition.
"To my knowledge there is no date yet," said Montero, "but I will discuss it as soon as possible." The government spokeswoman then added: "The most likely scenario is that the issue will be discussed before the meeting scheduled between the president of Catalonia Aragonès and Prime Minister Sánchez", a meeting scheduled for the end of June. "Hope next week," he concluded.
In the morning, Deputy Prime Minister Carmen Calvo had also made it clear that the decision may be imminent: in an interview with the Andalusian radio Canal Sur Radio, she said that the study of the situation of the convicted Catalan leaders will be ready "within no more than three weeks". Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez is expected to report the decision to the Chamber of Deputies at the beginning of July, according to the Iberian media. (HANDLE).
