2021-06-19T01:16:04.187Z

Every Wednesday, the journalists of Le Parisien offer you their reviews of the main new releases in theaters.

So many choices still on this Wednesday!

With several French films of very high level, such as the comedy "Les 2 Alfred", in which the two Podalydès brothers are illustrated, a UFO at the crossroads of social chronicle and horror, "the Cloud", or even "Doctor de nuit ”, a drama that sometimes has the tone of a documentary.

On the action side, we will turn to Hollywood productions, such as the eagerly awaited sequel to "Sans un noise", apocalyptic science fiction, or "An Angry Man", a remake of our "Conveyor" ...

Overview of the main theatrical releases this Wednesday, June 16.

WE LOVED IT

"Les 2 Alfred": brilliantly funny

Alexandre has two months to prove to his wife that he can manage their two young children and find a job. This fifty-something thinks he's out of the woods by responding to an offer in a start-up. But he quickly finds himself lost in this apparently very cool company, where there is an unpredictable young boss, an ultra-rigid superior and where… having children is forbidden. Fortunately, he will be guided by Arcimboldo, a very resourceful self-employed person.

“Les 2 Alfred” shows how the “uberization” of work and the impossible “disconnection” can make us slaves, with a lot of intelligence and above all a lot of humor.

The Denis Podalydès-Sandrine Kiberlain-Bruno Podalydès trio makes sparks and certain scenes - that of the meeting with the banker and that of the job interview - are jewels of comedy.

EDITOR'S RATING: 4.5 / 5

“Les 2 Alfred”,

French comedy by Bruno Podalydès, with Denis Podalydès, Sandrine Kiberlain, Bruno Podalydès… (1h32)

"The Cloud": deep and striking

It's a film that gives chills, but it's more than a horror film. Awarded at several festivals, including Cannes and Gérardmer, Just Philippot's “La Nurée” features Virginie, a farmer who has been living alone with her children since her husband's suicide. She raises grasshoppers which she transforms into flour, but she cannot increase her productivity and risks bankruptcy. One day, she accidentally discovers a way to speed up the reproduction of her insects. She will sacrifice her health and fall into an infernal gear ...

"The Cloud" begins as a naturalistic agricultural thriller, where the main character, crushed by the costs of production, finds himself drawn into a race for profit.

"It was as if I was trying to associate

Petit paysan

with

Alien

", sums up Just Philippot, who signs his first feature film there.

It is carried by a very beautiful image and the accurate interpretation of the actors, including Suliane Brahim, member of the Comédie-Française and actress of the “Zone blanche” series.

Deep and striking.

EDITOR'S RATING: 4/5

“La Nurée”,

a French fantasy drama by Just Philippot, with Suliane Brahim, Sofian Khammes, Marie Narbonne… (1h41)

WE LOVED IT A LOT

"Without a noise 2": both sequel and prequel

Direct sequel to the excellent “Sans un noise”, released successfully in 2018, this film takes up its universe, and almost the same actors. It is therefore always a question of an Earth invaded by mysterious aliens, who detect and kill humans as soon as they produce the slightest decibel. At the end of the first installment, Evelyn (Emily Blunt), a young mother, resisted another attack and discovered a way to destroy the aliens, but at the cost of the sacrifice of her husband. This time, Evelyn and her offspring dare to venture outside their farm. If this allows the meeting of other survivors, the monsters are also part of the game, and not all of them are of extraterrestrial origin ...

If the theme of the second part is no longer a surprise, those who enjoyed the first will be delighted to find almost the entire cast, this time enriched with a Cillian Murphy ("Peaky Blinders") assuming the leading male role.

A character that we also find in flashback sequences, showing the attack that devastated the Earth, a facet totally ignored in the first film and here welcome.

EDITOR'S RATING: 4/5

“Without a noise 2”

, American science fiction film by John Krasinski, with Emily Blunt, Cillian Murphy, Millicent Simmonds… (1h37)

"Night doctor": realistic

Mikael, brilliantly embodied by Vincent Macaigne, is a night doctor who spends his nights running from one patient to another. But he also helps drug addicts in the street with Subutex, a substitute product that he obtains thanks to a pharmacist cousin by dispensing fake prescriptions. But, in twenty-four hours, everything risks toppling over ...

Very successful, hypertensive, "Doctor of the night", which describes the fight of a sympathetic type trained in the heart of the darkness of his daily life, oscillates between American thriller and hyperrealism.

And for good reason.

The director and the actor worked with real practitioners.

But they also went to see drug users in the street, and members of Doctors of the World who take care of those who live outside.

The story thus has an almost documentary aspect, while including elements drawn from various facts.

EDITOR'S RATING: 4/5

“Médecin de nuit”

, a French thriller by Élie Wajeman, with Vincent Macaigne, Sara Giraudeau, Pio Marmaï… 1h22.

"An Angry Man": a good remake of the "Conveyor"

Patrick Hill, with excellent credentials in the field of security, is hired by a CIT company in Los Angeles (United States), which has just been the subject of an attack that resulted in the death of three people. Nicknamed "H" and mocked by his colleagues, the newcomer however shows remarkable coolness, and ends up being appreciated. But his goal is not only to be employee of the month ...

These few lines perhaps evoke something to the thriller lover.

And for good reason: “an angry man” is none other than the Hollywood remake of the excellent “the Conveyor” (2004), signed Nicolas Boukhrief, in which Albert Dupontel played the main role.

The father of "Farewell the idiots" is here replaced by a Jason Statham more sober than usual.

Directed, it is true, by a director with a strong personality, Guy Ritchie, always follower of stories a little more complex than the average, even if it means taking his viewer backwards.

A remake, darker and more violent than the original, avoiding the feeling of déjà vu.

EDITOR'S RATING: 4/5

“An Angry Man”

, American thriller by Guy Ritchie, with Jason Statham, Holt McCallany, Josh Hartnett… 2 hours.

"Sound of metal": a deserved Oscar

Ruben (Riz Ahmed, formidable in the role), is a hard rock drummer who gradually becomes deaf.

Agreeing to stay in a community that takes care of those suffering from deafness, he chooses, when he leaves, to have implants placed, which will considerably change his way of perceiving surrounding noises, voices and music.

“Sound of metal” marks by its staging, its moving story, the quality of its interpretation and… its incredible sound environment.

Because the director has chosen to make us feel what Ruben hears, or at least what he hears less and less at first, then the sounds distorted by his implants.

For the viewer, the impression turns out to be phenomenal, a staggering rendering that won an Oscar deserved by the sound supervisor, Frenchman Nicolas Becker.

EDITOR'S RATING: 4/5

“Sound of metal”,

by Darius Marder, with Riz Ahmed, Olivia Cooke, Mathieu Amalric… (2 hours)

"Josée, the Tiger and the fish": a magnificent Japanese melody

Opening film at the Annecy festival, which is currently taking place, “Josée, the Tiger and the Fish” is a magnificent Japanese adolescent melodic… which pays homage to France.

Because her heroine, Kumiko, is a fan of Françoise Sagan, and was renamed "Josée" in honor of one of the characters of the novelist.

Paraplegic, Josée refuses to leave her room, seemingly grinding black, when in reality, fascinated by the underwater world, she spends her time drawing fish.

A turning point occurs when his grandmother hires a young man - passionate about diving - to help her take care of Josée: initially reluctant to the idea, the teenager will get closer to the boy, especially after the boy. - here, victim of an accident, also finds himself in a wheelchair ...

Chronicle in love with shattered bodies and broken souls, "Josée, the tiger and the fish", which never sinks into darkness, enchants as much by its scenario as by its graphics.

EDITOR'S RATING: 4/5

“Josée, the Tiger and the Fish”,

Japanese animated film by Kotaro Tamura.

1h38.

WE LOVED

"Un Tour chez ma fille": Balasko does it again

We had not seen it coming, but "Back to my mother's house", in June 2016, at the start of the Euro exactly as now, had turned into a social phenomenon with more than 2 million spectators (and 6 million viewers for the rebroadcast on TF1 on May 29): an unemployed quadra (Alexandra Lamy) forced to return to mom, recently widowed and who did not ask for so much (Josiane Balasko), it waltzed, it squeaked and it laughed.

Five years later, Alexandra Lamy is no longer there, but the lively septuagenarian must in turn leave her home, due to work.

It's up to the other badly or less loved girl, Caroline (Mathilde Seigner) to welcome her this time at her home, with her husband Alain (Jérôme Commandeur), with whom she gets along badly enough to have started therapy. couple.

"Un Tour chez ma fille" uses the same recipes, and maintains a rhythm of comedy always supported by excellent actors.

The appearance of Line Renaud as the mother of the mother, and much worse, puts family conflicts into perspective where the enemy always hides another.

Pleasant.

EDITOR'S RATING: 3/5

“Un Tour chez ma fille”,

by Éric Lavaine, with Josiane Balasko, Mathilde Seigner, Jérôme Commandeur, Didier Flamand… (1h28)

“5th Set”: Alex Lutz champion

There is still a Frenchman in contention at Roland Garros!

Three days after the end of the tournament, tennis is playing extra time… in the cinema.

The Porte d'Auteuil stadium is the setting for “5th Set”, the new film by Quentin Reynaud (“Paris-Willouby”) carried by the bluffing performance of Alex Lutz as a former little genius of French tennis who tries a unlikely comeback at almost 38 years old.

A dive into the harsh intimacy of an athlete confronted with age, fallen hopes, sacrifices, a difficult family balance… One of the rare examples of a film succeeding in capturing with great precision the gestures and the dramaturgy tennis.

EDITOR'S RATING: 3/5

“5th Set”,

film by Quentin Reynaud with Alex Lutz, Ana Girardot, Kristin Scott Thomas… (1h53)

WE ARE GOING ON OUR TOUR

"Sixteen springs": zero realism

Suzanne, 16, has little taste for friendships and romances for friends of her age, with whom she is definitely bored.

One morning, passing in front of a Parisian theater, she falls in wonder in front of a handsome thirty-something, whom she will do everything to meet.

After achieving this, she goes to see him regularly, then to have a platonic relationship with him, but passionate, despite their age difference.

And… And nothing!

This is about all that tells this film, signed and interpreted by Suzanne Lindon, daughter of Vincent and Sandrine Kiberlain.

From a formal point of view, the feature film holds up, especially for a first film directed by a very young director (18 years old when she shot it), shot in Scope, with neat images.

But the tone and the story of "Seize Printemps" leave you speechless, all smelling the romanticism as it is conceived in the beautiful districts.

So boring, and completely off the mark ...

EDITOR'S RATING: 1/5

“Sixteen Printemps”,

romance by and with Suzanne Lindon, and with Arnaud Valois, Frédéric Pierrot, Florence Viala… (1h14)
