Everything is ready in Geneva for the first face to face between US President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
There will be a first small meeting, with the respective foreign ministers and interpreters, then a more extended one.
At the end, separate press conferences, first by the leader of the Kremlin, then by the US president.
"Today's talks" in Geneva between Putin and Biden "will not be easy, it will be a very difficult conversation": said the Kremlin spokesman, Dmitri Peskov, in an interview with Russian TV broadcast by TASS. "We have a lot of backlogs that need to be addressed, so President Putin comes with the intention of raising issues honestly and constructively and trying to find solutions," Peskov said.
"No", today's summit "cannot become historic and no turning point can and should not be expected," Peskov said, noting that relations between the US and Russia are strained.
Peskov, however, stated that "the very fact that the two presidents have decided to meet" and "to start talking openly about the existing problems is already a result".
"Even before starting, this summit has this positive result," the Kremlin spokesman said.
The plane carrying the Russian president landed in Geneva.
Putin should go directly to Villa La Grange for the summit with Biden.
The Kremlin leader will be welcomed at the Villa La Grange by the President of the Swiss Confederation Guy Parmelin.
