ROME - For Italian tourism that has come out in serious difficulties for over 15 months of closures and restrictions due to the pandemic, good news is also starting to arrive from foreigners. According to the estimates of a survey by Demoskopika on behalf of the Municipality of Siena that ANSA has previewed, there will be over 25 million overnight stays (+ 15.3% on 2020) and 12.3 million arrivals in Italy between June- September from France, Germany, Great Britain, Spain and the USA. In particular, to opt for the "traditional" accommodation offer, linked to the hotel and non-hotel sector, just over 7.2 million tourists with an estimated increase of 29.2%. In fact, over half of the foreigners of these 5 countries have already decided to go on vacation, 5% opting for Italy.

"After the annus horribilis of 2020, the increase of almost 30% in foreign arrivals - says the tourism minister Massimo Garavaglia to ANSA - is a positive fact. It should be noted, however, that the 15% increase in attendance denotes a contraction in the holiday period attributable to the economic crisis that has hit the incomes of all tourists. The sample in question covers 50% of the traditional flow of travelers to Italy (France-Germany-Gb-Spain-USA) but we hope that the remaining 50% will raise the percentages once some technical procedures for arrivals have been clarified ". Sea, mountains and cities of art are at the top of the travel diary. About half of the interviewed sample opts for the sea (48.4%) or for exotic destinations (3.9%), the mountains are also good (15.1%), the "cities of art, culture and villages "(12.3%) and the type" countryside, agritourism "(8%). Five are the most popular regions: Trentino Alto Adige, Tuscany, Sicily but also Puglia and Lombardy. that significant 44.6% have already given up on holidays.

The reasons? Firstly, due to the fear of traveling (17.7%), a modality immediately followed by economic impossibility (14.6%) or having already given up, beyond the health emergency (12.2%). As for the identikit of the foreign tourist who will come to Italy, according to the survey, it is a manager or employee, aged between 36 and 64, with a medium-high educational qualification, preferably a graduate. Opt for a holiday preferably of a week, as a couple or with your family, preferably by the sea in August, not forgetting the mountains and cities of art in search of a relaxing period surrounded by nature or discovering the cultural heritage of Beautiful country. For the overnight stay more than half prefer "hotel or tourist village" (44%) even if,an equally significant 35.8%, also due to the modified tourist consumption linked to the pandemic emergency, is looking for a "rented house" (19.3%) or "a house owned by the family" (9.2%) or, finally, "guest of relatives and friends" (7.3%). Finally, to experience a safe holiday, it indicates two priorities: to ensure compliance with the rules of social distancing and green pass.observation of social distancing and green pass rules.observation of social distancing and green pass rules.

"Our estimates on incoming in Italy confirm the growing trend for the summer, already noted in recent days on domestic demand, also for foreign tourists, both in terms of arrivals and presences" says the president of Demoskopika. Raffaele Rio. "We look at Italy - continues Rio - with renewed interest as a tourist destination, but, at the same time, we expect that the choices of tourist consumption are accompanied by greater clarity of the safety protocols, not least the decision to extend, for example, the green pass also outside the European perimeter to other countries deemed "safe" in terms of pandemic control. Finally - he concludes - it would be profitable to promote the General States of Italian tourism for next October with thethe objective of launching, together with the sector's stakeholders, a more informed and incisive planning for the next two years ".
