ROME - Leonardo da Vinci cover genius, celebrated as "the forerunner of aviation" by La tribuna illustrata. Or involuntary testimonial of Pirelli rubber, "The best drawing rubber". And then Alberto Martini's fiery red Lucifer or Ezio Anichini's postcard burning in the flames of Dante's Inferno. And again the Head of a Maiden by De Chirico, who, like many in those years, used Raffaello, who was back in fashion, as a figurative and cultural source to re-establish a new aesthetic. Thus, a century ago, Italy celebrated one after another the anniversaries of its greatest geniuses, the Maestro della Gioconda, the Urbino one so dear to the Popes and the Supreme Poet, in a triumph of appointments, works and publications , now collected by the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei in the exhibition "The Triptych of the Centenary. Leonardo 1919 Raffaello 1920 Dante 1921 ", from June 16 to January 13 2022 at Villa Farnesina.

A real step back in time, by Roberto Antonelli, Virginia Lapenta and Guicciardo Sassoli de 'Bianchi Strozzi, which, as remembered by the president and president emeritus of the Lincei Giorgio Parisi and Alberto Quadrio Curzio, marks a new stage in the wider celebrations that the Academy dedicates to the 500th anniversary of the death of the two painters and to the 700th anniversary of Dante with the project "Trittico dell'ingegno italiano". "An occasion that has never been celebrated together until now - says the coordinator Roberto Antonelli - and which today we take as a signal for a new restart of the Academy and of Italy". A bit like in those years, in the first post-war period, when the country started again celebrating its three Masters: Leonardo (1919), Raphael (1920) and Dante (1921). The exhibition, with "rare and unexpected materials - says Antonelli - for the first time ensures a historical perspective to the celebrations and represents the transition point between yesterday and today. "A roundup on the taste and aesthetics of the time, including period magazines, objects and books , works by the protagonists of twentieth century art (from private collections) as well as postcards designed by Ezio Anichini in view of Dante's centenary of 1921.

After the prologue with the sketches of the story-homage to Raphael "Uncle Scrooge and the stone of beyondblù" by Panini Comics in collaboration with the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei, the exhibition opens with Leonardo, his countless inventions and studies on the body that become the perfect inspiration for industry and art in the midst of avant-garde and futurism. The section on Raphael combines the more "popular" reading such as Liebig postcards and articles about his loves or the use of his creations for cigarette or children's product advertising, with the study of Renaissance art by artists such as De Chirico, Severini, the future twentieth century artists Achille Funi and Mario Sironi. Finally, the 600 years since Dante's death run between book and magazine covers, but also works by contemporary artists such as Adolfo Wildt or Carlo Carrà who make it the emblem of Italian identity and vate of national greatness. And it is precisely with Dante that the Lincei will continue in the coming months the Triptych of Italian Ingenuity with the exhibitions La Biblioteca di Dante (7 October 2021 - 16 January 2022), The reception of the Comedy from manuscripts to the media (25 March 2022 - 25 June 2022) and With Dante's eyes. Artistic Italy in the Age of Comedy (25 March 2022 - 25 June 2022). "The celebrations of the 700th anniversary of his death, celebrated throughout Italy - comments the minister of culture Dario Franceschini - have become a moment of national pride and intersect with the country's desire to restart, to get out of the pandemic, to get closer to culture, to have theItaly as we have known it over time ".
