(ANSA) - ROME, JUN 16 - The American hospitality giant, Airbnb, paid a compensation of seven million dollars (about 5.8 million euros) to an Australian tourist who had booked an apartment in New York and was raped under the threatens with a knife on the first night of his stay.
According to international media reports, the woman had taken the keys to the apartment from a nearby shop on New Year's Eve in 2015 and went out with some friends to celebrate the New Year.
The attacker, Junior Lee, a 24-year-old who was in possession of copies of the apartment keys, had meanwhile entered the house and attacked the girl upon her return shortly after midnight.
According to the compensation agreement, which was reached in 2017, the woman cannot sue Airbnb, nor the owner of the apartment in question. (HANDLE).
