For once it's not a scene or a movie poster, for this special year the official poster of the Cannes Film Festival (6-17 July) is a part of Spike Lee's face with big eyes in the foreground behind big glasses and with the background of the palm trees of the Croisette.
A black and white image that clearly wants to be a 'manifesto' also of intentions of the president of the jury who will award the Palme d'Or, curiously ready to watch the films of the Official Selection on the big screen.
The poster speaks of 'impatience', of the sea, of personal memories of his first film shot in the heat of the summer of 1985 in black and white, steeped in urban and popular culture, Nola Darling, a representation of the African-American community out of stereotypes, and he does so with a tender and mischievous look that he will carry with him from that moment on in four decades of always powerful films without neglecting entertainment: Spike Lee, citizen of the "People's Republic of Brooklyn, New York". Spike Lee's photo was taken by Bob Peterson & Nike.
