The collection of signatures for the referendum on Legal Euthanasia promoted by the Luca Coscioni Association starts today June 17.
To collect the necessary 500,000 signatures by 30 September, the first tables will be set up immediately in Milan (corner between Corso Garibaldi and via Statuto) and Rome (Largo Argentina), while by 30 June they will be organized throughout Italy.
The Luca Coscioni Association presented it today during the campaign held at the Press Room of the Chamber of Deputies.
The referendum for Legal Euthanasia was filed on the initiative of the Luca Coscioni Association last April 20 in the Court of Cassation. The text provides for a partial repeal of art. 579 of the penal code (murder of the consenting party), which prevents the realization of what is commonly understood by 'active euthanasia' (on the Dutch or Belgian model).

"If at least 500,000 authenticated and certified signatures are not delivered to the Court of Cassation by September 30, it will no longer be possible in this legislature to approve the referendum", so it means at best "to have a law in, 4 or 5 years, maybe 7 -8 years ". A referendum made necessary, he specified, by the fact that "the sentence of the Constitutional Court keeps out two types of patients: those who are not kept alive by vital supports, for example cancer patients like Daniela, and patients who are unable to die by themselves, because they are totally immobilized and therefore would need theeuthanasia. This is why the mobilization for the collection of signatures is urgent at the moment ".
