Hoshi returns with "Star Creepy": "When I am in my character, I face my fears"

Hoshi does not know the crisis.

A year ago, at the end of the first confinement, she released her second album, the very successful "Sommeil Levant".

She sold nearly 50,000 copies, a nice success without touring to promote it, but she felt the need to write a new one.

Unveiled this Friday, “Étoile flippante” brings together thirteen unreleased tracks, including the hit “And even after I will love you” and the superb duet “Pleurs de fumoir” with Benjamin Biolay, and depicts a 24-year-old artist in full vocal progression and artistic.

At the same time, she has just unveiled on Youtube a documentary on the backstage of her creation and her career, and will embark on a long tour of festivals, this summer, at the Zéniths, next year.

This "Creepy Star" is more than a reissue.

It's a new album.

Why ?

HOSHI.

"Rising Sleep" came out in "the middle of the war", with little promotion and no concert to defend it and channel my energy.

I was going around in circles.

So I got back to writing and composing and I got some inspiration.

I set up my studio at home and got so involved - I even did the arrangements for the first time - that I ended up with all these new songs!

But I didn't want it to be a new record, which eclipses the previous one that was close to my heart.

So it's a double album.

The double-album "Étoile flippante" contains the titles of "Sommeil levant" and 13 other unreleased tracks. 

Your voice has evolved.

I quit smoking a year ago.

It didn't affect “Sommeil Levant”, but it can be heard on the new songs.

I thought my voice was really limited and find out it wasn't.

It is less broken, I have less sore throat.

With my hearing problems

I tended to force and after 140 concerts, she was damaged.

This change of voice allowed me to try a lot of different styles, to take the risk of getting into my head vocals on "He was a you" and "Shivers" ...

And on your duet with Calogero during a show on W9?

I didn't think I could.

But I loved singing with him, so much so that we did a duet for another show, but this time on my song "And even after I will love you".

It's a great meeting.

I hope we will write a song together one day.

How did you meet Benjamin Biolay?

Again, I'm lucky. I wrote "Smokehouse Crying" one long night thinking of him. And the next day, for the first time, I dared to ask my producer to contact him. We sent him the title and luck would have it that we meet that very evening on a radio show. We had never met and he asked me "So when do we sing it?" We recorded it a week later and we even made a short film of it

Even the artists of the time of Fabien Leceuvre condemned it.

We don't want to go through that anymore.

In the blink of an eye, you sell "Star Flippant" with your signed poster.

At the time, I didn't want to make a business out of it, but I received so many messages with this idea that I said to myself “come on, let's play the game, it's funny”.

But at the time it was not funny ...

Frankly, in one year, I got so caught up in it.

Me, I just want to make music.

And above all, Fabien Leceuvre's words upset my mother.

I had him on the phone in tears.

I didn't think it would hurt my loved ones so much.

Just because we're on TV doesn't mean we're all really good about ourselves.

Why call your reissue “Star Flippante”?

With what happened, she lives up to her name (laughs).

I wrote this title, because I often said that to myself.

“Hoshi” means star in Japanese.

And I'm afraid of becoming a creepy star.

I'm freaked out about everything.

Of life.

People.

Let it all stop.

But all is well

While in confinement, I couldn't observe people, so I drew on my past to write.

It was a long process, I even went looking for forgotten wounds, but it was therapy.

And in the end, it made me feel good.

I came out of this album better.

You are also releasing a documentary.

What is he talking about ?

About my story and the birth of this album, in about twenty minutes.

Last year, life was so weird that I really needed to tell about it.

The film is released on YouTube for everyone to have access to and for me to have control over the content.

Are you planning your tour?

We rehearsed before the first two dates, June 9 and 10 in Chalons. We have a dozen festivals this summer, we did not take too many because we are going to tackle the tour at the start of the school year and the Zéniths in 2022. It was physical, the rehearsals, because we are doing twenty titles and 1h45. The hours spent in front of Netflix, we felt them (laughs), we all ended up collapsed on the ground. But I can't wait. We will have to deal with the masked people, the people seated while the music is moving a lot, but the reunion will be moving. I'm going to cry, that's for sure ...
