The desire for holidays is back and this year (at least in intentions) there will be 41 million Italians who will grant themselves one, 11 million more than in the terrible 2020. A first sign of recovery, which affects the whole country from North to South , even if the numbers of the pre-Covid world are still far away. The desire for holidays is back and this year (at least in intentions) there will be 41 million Italians who will grant themselves one, 11 million more than in the terrible 2020. A first sign of recovery, which affects the whole country from North to South , even if the numbers of the pre-Covid world are still far away.

To tell the story is the research "Italians and the holidays of the restart", carried out by italiani.coop (Coop's research and analysis tool) for Robintur Travel Group (the Coop Alleanza 3.0 group that owns the largest Italian network of agencies direct travel).

After the gap of -17 million Italians in the summer of 2020, according to the data collected in the first week of June and illustrated today by the general director of Ancc-Coop National Association of Consumer Cooperatives, Albino Russo, this year we return to travel, for mostly in Italy (9 families out of 10) and towards the sea (58%), with the cities of art which, however, begin a slow rise. At the top of the chosen destinations there are Puglia, Sicily and Tuscany but Sicily is growing more than in 2020. On the other hand, those who think of crossing borders focus on Greece, Spain and France. In the drawer, the dream of distant destinations, perhaps in 2022, towards the Americas (USA, Caribbean, Cuba) or Asia (Maldives, Japan and United Arab Emirates).

Fear of contracting Covid has dropped (19% against 48% in 2020), vaccines make us more serene. But it will not be the summer of "free all". Indeed, according to the data, 8 out of 10 Italians still say they are in favor of masks, entry quotas and compulsory reservations and 67% of the green pass (consensus that rises even more among young people). 33% then declare that they want to get vaccinated but are afraid of not making it in time. The ideal solution, he says, would be the administration of the serum on vacation. What we will do? In the meantime, we will leave with the four-legged friend (46% of the owners), who are also willing to spend more on an expressly pet-friendly accommodation facility (72%). We dream of fun (22%) and relaxation (62%), but smart working continues to follow us even on vacation:62% of vacationers will use PCs or tablets for study and work. Then you go back to lunch and dinner at the restaurant (98%), you go to exhibitions and museums (74%) and also to the cinema (38%), you dance (as far as possible, 55%) and you play sports (77 %).

"The trend is positive - confirms Russo - but we are still in a middle season. There remains a whole part of the country that can't make it." In the meantime "after the first months of the year of substantial closure", from mid-May the agencies are "recovering weekly sales volumes equal to 50% of 2019 and the amount of sales in 2021 has already exceeded that of 2020", say the CEO and the president of Robintur Travel Group, Claudio Passuti and Stefano Dall'Ara. The focus is still so much on Italy, the outgoing is in great suffering. "We know that 2022 will be the real year of recovery - they say - . Nothing will be the same as before. Tourism and organized tourism will change skin and we will be ready ".“The desire to travel of Italians is certainly the best growth driver for our sector - adds Dall'Ara - but it is still strongly conditioned by the constraints and restrictions on travel. The opening of international destinations, including long-haul, is fundamental for the revival of tourism, in particular of outgoing tourism. Now we still need action by the Ministry of Tourism and the Italian government at European and international level ". The hope is that" the sector will be supported again this year with important resources, given that it was undoubtedly the one most penalized by pandemic, with loss of turnover between 70 and 80% ".The opening of international destinations, including long-haul, is fundamental for the revival of tourism, in particular of outgoing tourism.
