Around seven months after Diego Maradona's death, the lawyer of one of the accused nurses accuses the treating doctors.

"You killed Diego," said Rodolfo Baqué after questioning his client Dahiana Gisela Madrid.

According to this, the doctors Maradona administered psychotropic drugs that increase the pulse, even though the 1986 world champion was also treated for a heart condition.

In addition, he was not taken to the hospital after he fell.

The nurse is one of seven suspects against whom the public prosecutor is investigating on suspicion of manslaughter.

The doctors do not make their statements until the end of the month.

"Long, agonizing period"

Maradona died of a heart attack on November 25, 2020 at the age of 60 in a private residential complex north of Buenos Aires.

Two weeks earlier, he had been released from hospital where he had undergone brain surgery.

A medical expert commission recently accused the doctors and nurses of serious mistakes.

Maradona had been given insufficient medical care and had been left to his fate for a "long, painful period".

The dying process started "at least twelve hours" before Maradona's death.

"In the end there were many warning signs that Maradona was going to die in more or less than a day," attorney Baque said now.

"And none of the doctors did anything to prevent it." His client was Maradona's day care worker and one of the last people to see him alive.

She only followed "the instructions of the treating doctors," according to her defense lawyer.

The public prosecutor's office in San Isidro, north of Buenos Aires, is currently interrogating the doctors and nurses of the Argentine football legend.

The investigators accuse Maradona's personal physician Leopoldo Luque, the psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov and several nurses of manslaughter.

They would have known about the poor health of their patient and left him to his fate.

If convicted, the suspect faces a prison sentence of up to 25 years.
