The Minister of Health of the City of Buenos Aires, Fernán Quirós, affirmed this Friday that given the "new strains" of coronavirus that are circulating, it will be necessary to "
advance in the coming weeks
more quickly
with the second doses
" of the vaccines against covid-19.
"Based on these
new strains
that are circulating in some countries, especially the Indian strain, we are going to have to advance in the coming weeks more quickly with the second doses. So we will focus on this," he stressed. Quiros.
During a press conference, the Buenos Aires official stressed that in the City there are people who "these days are completing their third month of vaccination" with Sputnik V and are "
anxious and pending
when" they are going to be vaccinated.
"We have received the information that next Thursday a flight will depart to Moscow to bring vaccines and we are awaiting confirmation of
the number of second components
that this flight has in order to be able to call the people who are waiting for their second component and vaccinate it, "he stressed.
Fernán Quirós warned that before the new variants of covid-19 they will "have to advance" with the second doses.

In this context, Quirós clarified: "People who have received AstraZeneca, we
have the amount of vaccines
to vaccinate (with the second doses)".
"All of them, as they meet their date, will be called and invited to take a turn to get vaccinated," he said.
Purchase of vaccines
Regarding the City's negotiations to acquire vaccines from United States laboratories, he specified: "The companies that market vaccines, especially Pfizer, have already publicly said that until they can complete delivery commitments with the nation states
they will not take delivery commitments
with sub-national states ".
"It is a vaccine that only national governments can access. We are very aware of how the negotiation with Argentina is progressing, and we are always ready to
collaborate, support and accompany
that purchase process," he added.
"Our main limitation to accelerate the campaign is that Argentina can access more vaccines," said Quirós.

Asked about the possibility of adding new public spaces such as vaccination centers, Quirós replied: "The problem of the City today is not centered on
vaccination posts
. We have more vaccination posts than what we need to apply the vaccines that we have and we are going receiving".
"Our main limitation to accelerate the campaign is that Argentina can access more vaccines. We do not have in our files to look for more places [for vaccination] because
they are not necessary
," said the Buenos Aires minister.
In that sense, he explained that "all spaces in the public sphere of the City are available to accompany this campaign," and stressed: "The City of Buenos Aires today has a vaccination capacity that exceeds the
number of vaccinations you receive
".
Finally, he assured that "the epidemic curve is
descending
, so that is always promising", but warned: "We have all learned that with this disease where we relax or get distracted a little the curve rises again."
