Galleria dell'Accademia di Firenze restarts with a new website

FLORENCE - From music to theater, from 360-degree virtual visits to educational formats, from expert explanations to podcasts: the Galleria dell'Accademia in Florence, a treasure chest with Michelangelo's David, restarts presenting the new web portal that contains all digital experiences tested in the months of closure for Covid.

The new site, 'Accademia Online', which will be active from Friday 18 June, offers a varied program of digital content among the richest and most innovative for a single museum in Italy.

"With the new site - explains the director Cecilie Hollberg - we propose many different formats, which we invented during the pandemic, and we decided to offer them all together on a single site dedicated to the masterpieces of the past, but which is finally projected into the future. it is part of the huge modernization work experienced this year, which we are carrying out with the construction sites and which, by the end of December, will bring the Accademia Gallery into the 21st century ". The Florentine museum also used the months of forced closure to renovate and consolidate the building, monitor and restore the masterpieces and modernize the systems, offering, upon reopening, also new routes and installations. Among the novelties, therefore,also the launch of the new portal that contains the innovative formats implemented during the pandemic. "Creating the new site - explains Hollberg - was an absolute necessity because we have many innovative contributions to offer. We propose a new digital gallery, a site where you can get lost for hours and learn more about our masterpieces. And many, the director explains, have already taken advantage of the reopening to enjoy the view of Michelangelo's David and other masterpieces. "We have many visitors - she explains - and soon we will increase the presence inside the museum. The public was enthusiastic from the first day. The Florentines have regained possession of their museum and are happy, but foreigners are back too: the first visitor in May he came from Marseille. This summer obviously there won't be the crowds of the past, but it's the right time to enjoy the culture with more calm and attention ". To celebrate the reopening of the museum and the launch of the new site,An unpublished musical short film written by the composer and director Giorgio Ferrero was also presented for four ancient instruments belonging to or inspired by the collection of musical instruments exhibited in the Accademia Gallery.
