Four men are said to have stolen around 38 tons of citrus fruits in the south of the Greek Peloponnese peninsula during this year's orange season.

The alleged gang ran an orange picking business in the region of the city of Sparta and offered their services to local farmers.

In at least 35 cases, they are said to have diverted large quantities of the fruit and sold it themselves, as reported by the Greek media.

A case of serious theft is now being initiated against the men.

The alleged perpetrators are said to have stolen around 7,700 euros by selling the fruit.
