(ANSA) - TEHRAN, June 19 - The seats for the presidential elections were closed in Iran at 2am local time (11.30pm Italian time).
Shortly before midnight, the Iranian electoral committee declared that the vote would be extended until 2 am following requests for extension of the voting operations made by some media and candidates.
This was reported by the official agency Irna.
The results are expected on Saturday afternoon, according to local authorities. 3 candidates remain in the running, after the withdrawal on the eve of the other 4 admitted by the Guardian Council, all men, out of the almost 600 initial aspirants: the ultraconservative Ebrahim Raisi, head of the judicial apparatus, the former commander of the Pasdaran, Mohsen Rezai, of the same side, and the governor of the central bank, the moderate Abdolnaser Hemmati.
