(ANSA) - NEW YORK, JUN 18 - Temperatures in California are reaching 48 degrees and Governor Gavin Newsom declares an emergency state until midnight on Saturday. In fact, there is a fear of a collapse of the electricity grid given the stifling heat that has persisted for about a week without a respite for the next few days.
Last year, more than 200,000 residents were left without electricity due to the excessive use of air conditioners due to the extreme heat. To avoid a recurrence of the same situation, the authorities advised to maintain an internal temperature of 25 degrees and to avoid using unnecessary equipment.
In Death Valley National Park, one of the hottest places in the world, the mercury has now reached 54 degrees.
The heat wave is also affecting Arizona and the southern areas of Nevada and Utah. (HANDLE).
