The Conspiracy Theory on the World Islands in Dubai (TIKTOK)

A new conspiracy theory is gaining momentum in Tiktok, according to which a "mysterious" archipelago off the coast of Dubai is in fact no less than a "safe haven for the apocalypse" for the rich and famous.

The theory started running on the net as early as last year and has faded, but has now re-emerged thanks to a video showing the group of artificial islands, "Islands of the World", built off the coast of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

It is a kind of artificial archipelago of 300 man-made islands whose general contours mimic the world map and are even named after different parts of the world like Germany, Australia and some American countries.

This is probably why Tiktok surfers, who have only just found out about the existence of the islands, suspect that there are people who are secretly planning their escape there in case the world comes to an end.

The British "Sun" reported that the new video focuses on a map found on Snapchat, and you can hear a voice asking: "I saw it and did not believe it, but my God - what the hell is that ?!"

The video passes through the Middle East before focusing on the United Arab Emirates and right off the coast of Dubai the group of islands is shown.

As the photo gets closer, you can see the islands of Antarctica and Australia appear on the map and then the islands are shown with names of American countries and Canadian provinces.

At this point the voice asks, "Should I have seen this? What are they planning?".

One person responded to the video and wrote, "You should not have seen it! You better pack your bags and try to hide before they come to catch you. Disconnect all your electronics, because they will follow you."

Another said: "It's crazy, I went and looked at it and my stomach turned" and a third wrote: "Is this what will remain of humanity or can it be a safe area for people with power and influence when the world ends? These are just a few questions".

So what is really there - and what went wrong?

There were more normal surfers who were quick to refute the "conspirators", who of course have no evidence to back up their claims - and demanded that they "use common sense".

One wrote: "If this was some kind of conspiracy, then why the hell do you think they would show it on Google Maps ?! Use your mind."

And he is of course right.

Despite what can be deduced from the video, these islands are not related to any plan to build a post-apocalyptic colony, but these are actually private islands, whose construction began in September 2003 and is based on the use of rocks and sand excavated from the seabed and without concrete assistance.

The project was led by a former Dubai control, Maktoum Ben Rashid Maktoum.

The 300 islands are arranged so that they resemble a map of the continents of the earth, with the idea being that each of these islands would be linked according to a different country or region in the world.

Most of the islands have been sold to private contractors and investors in the hope that they can build private homes, luxury mansions and dream resorts there.

The total construction cost of the "world" is estimated at $ 14 billion, but this megalomaniacal mega-project has been in decline for several years and the islands have so far been only partially developed, with only the island of Lebanon fully developed commercially and used for private events and grandiose parties.

Progress has also been made on some islands that make up the "heart of Europe", such as Sweden, Monaco, the Netherlands, St. Petersburg and Greenland, but most of the islands are completely deserted and construction of the rest seems to have stalled due to reports that the islands (which may be sand) have begun to sink.
