(ANSA) - SAN PAOLO, June 19 - Brazil has passed the threshold of half a million deaths caused by Covid-19. The local press reports, based on data from the state health departments: the country now has 500,022 victims of the new coronavirus. Brazil has so far 17,822,659 confirmed cases, while vaccination is proceeding slowly: in about five months of the campaign, less than 12% of the population has already taken the two doses. The milestone of 500,000 victims coincides with a new day of protests against President Jair Bolsonaro, accused of not having fought the pandemic and of having favored the circulation of the virus.
