These days, more and more snakes are being seen in the water pools of Kibbutz Hazorea in the Jezreel Valley.

These are not venomous snakes to humans, but an embedded water snake that lives in the fish ponds in the area and feeds on the fish that live in them.

And if already in the area: the

spring in turquoise that "replaces" the assi, and is open to everyone,

photographer Yechiel Oknin, who often documents nature and special animals, captured yesterday (Saturday) on camera the moment of capturing a large goldfish, but only after a long time.

"To photograph him, we sat in hiding for about three hours," Oknin told Walla!

Tourism.

"Suddenly the snake suddenly came up with a large goldfish in its mouth, which was immediately swallowed. Watching the snakes' hunting craft is just amazing."

The only one of the 1,500 species of water snakes that lives in Israel

The embedded water snake (Natrix tessellata) was also documented at the same place yesterday by the inspector of the Nature and Parks Authority, Shai Kabsa.

The Nature and Parks Authority notes that the snake is from the zebrafish family and is the only one of the 1,500 species of living water snakes in Israel.

It lives mostly in water, swims excellently in a winding way and is mostly active during the day.

Its size is small to medium, its maximum length is up to two meters.

Its colors are in the spectrum between brown and khaki to grayish green.

Its hallmark are black dots inlaid.

Its body structure is adapted to stay in the water so its eyes do not look straight ahead, but up and so do the nostrils, so that they protrude slightly above the water as its body twists underwater and its scales are rays.

The snake "playing it" is dead

The water snake eats mainly fish or parts of fish, amphibians like frogs, tadpoles and birds that have died while at sea or in a lake.

In Israel, it is found in freshwater sources in the north and center of the country, in swamps and near leaking taps.

In the world it can be seen in continents of Europe and Asia.

The snake does not bite and does not bite, even when caught by humans.

In these situations when he feels threatened - he defends himself by secreting a liquid with a very pungent odor of dead fish, or a white substance that looks like feces that deters the factors around him.

In addition, so as not to be preyed upon, he lies in disguise as if he were dead.

Only if he feels that the cause is friendly and has no intention of harming him, does he stop secreting this fluid.

Its maximum length is up to two meters (Photo: courtesy of the photographers, Yechiel Oknin)

In the summer months, the female lays 25-20 eggs under stones or in a damp place.

The length of each snake when it hatches from the egg is about 20 cm.
