He was spotted by a security officer of the Termini station in Rome wandering around armed with a knife near an exit of the airport.
In an attempt to stop the man wielding the knife, a police officer fired a shot that wounded him in the groin
The 44-year-old Ghanaian, with a record, was taken to hospital in code red, but would not be life threatening.
The episode happened yesterday evening around 7 pm near the exit of the station in via Giolitti. The moments were filmed in some videos of passers-by in which the man with a kitchen knife in his hand is seen also getting on some scooters, then the policemen approaching with the batons and finally the agent shooting.
"The intervention at Termini station, which saw several agents engaged in rendering harmless a multiple-prejudiced who, in an evident state of alteration, threatened several people by brandishing a knife, urgently re-proposes the theme of electric impulse guns to be used for the forces of order".
The spokesman of the national association of police officers, Girolamo Lacquaniti, argues,
highlighting that "only the calm and coolness of the policemen who intervened meant that no innocent citizen was injured, forcing a policeman to shoot the man in the leg. in the meantime he had moved, still armed, to via Marsala ".
"For years now, we have been reaffirming how electric impulse guns represent an indispensable tool for dealing with the increasingly frequent operational dynamics where armed and out of control subjects expose the operators of the police force to enormous risks and the burdensome responsibility of being forced to use of the firearm - affirms Lacquaniti, - To those who show perplexity in the need to equip the women and men of the police with these tools, we reiterate that the electric pulse guns represent the least harmful and most effective tool to protect the physical integrity of all: citizens, police forces and criminals themselves ". "We hope - he concludes - that this umpteenth episode, moreover managed with great professionalism by the intervening agents, may be the occasion for a definitive reflection on the need and urgency of modernizing the armament of the police forces ".
The leader of the League intervenes with a post on social media. "Now maybe some radical chic on the left will criticize the policeman, not the criminal armed with a knife (and multi-prejudiced) who threatened people in Rome near Termini station ... Always on the side of the police!".
