First round of regional elections in France, last "dress rehearsal" for the majority of Emmanuel Macron in view of the presidential elections scheduled in a year.
The extreme right of Marine Le Pen, the Rassemblement National, is favored by the polls to snatch from the Républicains of the moderate right and the left 6 out of 13. The performance of Macron's La République en Marche will be uncertain and difficult to interpret. regional precedents, in 2015, did not exist, and in most of the territory it is present with alliances or desistances.
The ballot, postponed for 3 months due to the pandemic, provides for a ballot in a week. 48 million French are called to the polls but the feared drop in participation is now proving to be a real collapse: at 5 pm only 26.72% of those entitled voted, dropping what it had been by 16 points, in 2015, a figure already negative at the same time, 43.01%. The negative record was, in 2010, 39.29% at 5pm.
