A local outbreak of the corona virus in the Binyamina area is a cause for concern among many.

The Ministry of Health announced that 45 children had been found verified, apparently to the Indian variant of the virus, also called the Delta version.

The source of this outbreak is still under investigation, but apparently there is a connection to a family that recently returned from abroad.

The Delta version is now considered the most common version of the virus in the UK, and even the one associated with an increase in cases of infection there.

Last week we reported that British researchers warn that this version of the virus may seem like a cold to many, because corona symptoms are different in it, so they are not careful enough.

The UK also warns that the increase in cases of infection is seen mainly among young and unvaccinated people, with most cases under the age of 40, and especially between the ages of 20-29.

The delta version has an adhesion coefficient of 6 (one patient will infect another 6) - about twice as much as the previous version.

The U.S. also fears the Delta version, warning that it is expected to become the dominant strain soon. Last week, federal medical officials classified the Delta version as a "worrying version" and warned of its rapid spread. Director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Wolanski said at the weekend that "this is another reason why people need to increase the rate of vaccination."

In an interview with CNN she said that "the British version is more contagious. It is now almost 70 per cent of the virus here. We know that the Delta version is even more contagious than the British version, and I expect this to be the dominant version in the coming months".

She also clarified that existing vaccines against corona are effective against the delta version, so it is important that people get vaccinated.

The White House medical adviser, Dr. Anthony Pauchi, also expressed concern over the Delta version, but only for unvaccinated people. "You are at risk of contracting a virus that is now spreading more rapidly and causing a more serious illness."

Why is the Delta version more contagious?

According to the World Health Organization, a Delta version of the corona virus has so far spread to more than 80 countries, so there is no doubt that it is transmitted quickly and easily.

However, researchers are still unsure why the Delta version is much more contagious than others.

One hypothesis is that changes in the virus' protein may facilitate its entry into human cells.

Another study suggests that a mutation in the delta version may help it integrate better with human cells, so it is more contagious than they are and takes over the immune system faster.

Does the Delta version cause a more serious illness?

Here, too, there is still no unequivocal answer, but it seems that the symptoms of the Delta version are more severe, and that the risk of hospitalization increases after infection with this version of the corona virus.

Studies suggest that the risk of hospitalization will be almost double that after contracting the alpha version.

In China, doctors have reported that patients with the delta version are sicker than those who were treated at the beginning of the epidemic, and that their condition appears to be deteriorating much faster.

As noted earlier, in the UK, where this version is most common, it has been reported that the symptoms of COVID-19 may change with the spread of the delta version.

The main symptoms in the UK at the moment are:

- Headache

- Sore throat

- Rhinitis

- Fever

Cough has become less common, and loss of sense of smell and taste no longer appears in the list of 10 most common symptoms.

Researchers fear that people may mistake symptoms, and think they have contracted a severe cold, then will not go into isolation and continue to infect others.
